Using web-based tools to promote active learning

This presentation focuses on one of the courses I teach at a university, where students are supposed to learn research and presentation methods by using English in conjunction with computers and the Internet. In addition to using Moodle for organizing resources and activities, I integrated other web-based tools and materials into activities. These activities can help students feel more comfortable using computers and the Internet in addition to reading and writing in English, to help them learn to organize and interpret information they have gathered; and to encourage them to look for better ways to express their meaning. Besides, they are flexible enough to accommodate students’ diverse abilities and interests, and do not take much time to prepare. I will also mention step-by-step approaches I took to show them how these tools are used. (134)
